Firm padded feel. Hand made from three layers of cotton batting.
A 100% natural cotton sleeping mat in the traditional Japanese design.
It’s firm and stable cushioning without any spring or elasticity.
To make this mattress we hand stack layers of carded cotton – smoothing and arranging for consistency – then encase the resulting cotton matting into a cotton canvas cover, then hand tie or ‘tuft’ the materials securely together. This cotton mattresses is similar to those used in Japan for centuries (compared to Indian cotton mattresses that are usually ‘ram packed’, not layered).
We recommend this futon is used on the floor, because slats may be felt though this mattress.
Must be rolled up daily or flipped over. This allows the cotton to air and maintains the loft.
